It’s called Hackintosh and it will cost more time and aggravation than it will ever be worth. Mac software will not run in a PC environment and Windows software will not run in Hackintosh. I've installed CentOS (4 & 5) on various boxes, and really like the distro.I got a new Dell 530S (came with XP on it), and want to put CentOS on there...
I couldn't get the CentOS 5.0 disk to boot properly at all. It hangs after the ISOLINUX bootstrap.
So I tried my CentOS 4.4 'Server Install' CD. That gets farther...
I get to the CentOS Install Options (i.e. hit boot to install, etc.). And I hit to continue the installation. (This 'I hit return' successfully is more important than you think...)
Installing Hackintosh On Dell Inspiron 530 Laptop
The installer continues and gets to the first page where it asks the installation language. At that point I'm hung. Nothing happens if I use the kbd or the mouse.
Any ideas please? I know Dell now ships these with Ubuntu, so in general it should be possible.
Some, possibly relevant, info: no PS2 kbd/mouse - usb; all SATA drives.
