Borehole Log Template Excel

Excel Import File Format - Single and Multiple Boreholes

The required format for data being imported into LogPlot from Excel is identical to the format of LogPlot data exported to Excel. Here is a summary of the different Excel Worksheets, which correspond to the different LogPlot datasheets; click on a link below to jump to its description.

The format for importing data from multiple worksheets for a single borehole is identical as that for multiple holes, with the only exception for the latter being the requirement of a borehole ID column at the beginning of the column listing.

Unknown fields can be left blank. For example, you can omit the well location information from columns 3 and 4, but be sure that the column count is correct if you enter the KB elevation (which must be in column #5).

Bitmaps

Optional. This worksheet is used to list raster image file names and their depth intervals for import into a LogPlot Bitmap datasheet. These images can be displayed in the log body.

Edit Notes

Optional. This worksheet is used to list text information and their identifying names, to be imported into a LogPlot Edit-Notes datasheet. This data can be displayed in the log headers and footers in Edit-Notes fields, typically used for entry of multi-line comments that change from well to well. Edit Text

Optional. This worksheet is used to list text to be imported into a LogPlot Edit-Text datasheet. This is information that can be displayed in log headers and footers, in Edit-Text fields. These are used for short text labels that change from well to well (dates, names, etc.). For the data format for listing multi-line text, see Edit-Notes.

Fill Bars

Optional. This worksheet is used to list one or more depth intervals and optional keywords to be imported into a LogPlot Fillbar tab. This information is displayed as color/pattern-filled intervals on the log. Optional is an entry in the 'fill' field - if absent the fillbar will show the default fill color/pattern, while if present the bar will be filled with the color/pattern associated with the keyword.

Horizontal Lines

Optional. This worksheet is used to list one or two depths for each 'horizontal' line, to be imported into a LogPlot Horizontal Line datasheet. This data can be displayed in the log body as lines in the color/style of your choice.

Interbeds

Interval Data

Optional. This worksheet is used to list depth intervals (top and base) and one or more columns of values, to be imported into a LogPlot Interval Data datasheet. This is information that can be plotted in a Bar Graph, Bar Graph Value, or Interval Text column on a log. LogPlot will use the names in the first line of the Excel worksheet to label the columns in the resulting data file.

Lithology Data

Optional. This worksheet is used to list one or more depth intervals and a lithology keyword, and for each a contact line style (optional), and/or an extended description for the interval. This information is imported into a LogPlot Lithology datasheet, and can be displayed in a pattern and/or lithology description column on a log.

Orientation Data

Optional. This worksheet is used to list depths and orientation measurements for non-vertical wells, for import into a LogPlot Orientation tab. This data can be used to display true elevations on log scale bars.

Pattern Percent Data

Optional. This worksheet is used to list depth intervals and the percentage of multiple rock types described for that interval, imported into a LogPlot Percent datasheet. The names you enter for the column headings in Excel will determine the names LogPlot assigns the columns when imported. You can, however, change the column names in LogPlot once the data has been imported. These represent rock types that will link to patterns.

Point Data datasheet

Optional. This worksheet is used to list one column of depths and one or more columns of values, to be imported into a LogPlot Point Data datasheet. This data can be displayed in the log body in a Curve or Cross-Plot Curve column. LogPlot will use the names in the first line of the Excel worksheet to label the columns in the resulting data file.

Scale Tables

Optional. This worksheet is used to list depth intervals and a new horizontal scale for the curve (Point Data) of the same name. This data is imported into a LogPlot Scale Table tab, and links to a curve in the log design with the same name.

Optional. This worksheet is used to list either single depths or depth intervals, and the index number (vector symbols) or names (bitmap symbols) for the designs to be placed there. Also listed are color definitions. This data is imported into a LogPlot Symbol datasheet, and is plotted in a log body symbol column.
